GRANTHAM, PA – The University of Scranton men's soccer team scored twice in the first half and earned a big season-opening 2-0 victory over No. 25 Messiah University on Friday night at Shoemaker Field.

How it Happened
- The Royals wasted little time finding the net as junior Matt Capretto opened the scoring in the 9th minute. The forward capitalized on a defensive lapse and slotted home his first goal of the season to give Scranton a 1-0 lead.
- Just before halftime, junior Alex Kozdron doubled the advantage. After some strong buildup play, Kozdron found space inside the box and fired a low shot past the keeper to make it 2-0 in the 43rd minute.
- Messiah threatened throughout the match, out shooting Scranton 18-11, but the Royals' back line and senior goalkeeper Charlie Smith held firm to preserve the clean sheet.
