POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Despite a spirited second-half comeback, The University of Scranton women's soccer team fell just short in a 3-2 loss to undefeated Vassar College on Saturday afternoon at Gordon Field.

How it Happened

Vassar struck first in the 8th minute when Riley McGrath converted a centering pass from the left wing to make it 1-0.

The Brewers doubled their lead in the 35th minute after Ava Holman capitalized on a rebound to put Vassar ahead 2-0 at halftime.

Scranton came out strong in the second half, and in the 52nd minute, junior Jenna Borelli pounced on a rebound inside the box to get the Royals on the board, assisted by sophomore Molly Martys.

The Royals equalized in the 61st minute as freshman Elise Nicholas curled in a shot from the top right of the box after a well-worked passing sequence from senior Morgan Griffin and Borelli.

Vassar netted the game-winner in the 82nd minute when Holman headed home her second goal of the match off a cross from Rebecca Rodriguez.
