ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The University of Scranton wrestling team dropped a 36–16 decision to Muhlenberg College on Saturday night, earning three victories and competing in several tightly contested bouts throughout the dual.
Scranton opened the scoring at 133 pounds, as Mark Ortiz delivered an early momentum swing by pinning Jace Yannucciello in 1:58.
The Royals added another key result at 165 pounds, where Kevin McCarvill turned in a strong performance with a 10–2 major decision over Tyson Derenberger. McCarvill controlled the bout from start to finish, securing bonus points for Scranton.
Scranton closed team scoring at heavyweight, as Max Shnipes earned a win by forfeit at 285 pounds to account for the Royals' final points of the match.
Several other Scranton wrestlers battled in tough matchups against experienced opponents. Charles Kitching went the distance at 174, dropping a 9–5 decision to Lucas Velando, while Joseph Cappello, Shkeb Nadir, Logan Donato, Quinton Laughlin, and Joseph Epright each faced bonus-point outcomes against the hosts.
