Senior forward Matt Capretto of The University of Scranton men's soccer team has been named the Scranton Peggy's Athlete of the Week following an outstanding performance against Wilkes University.
Capretto recorded a career-high nine points on four goals and one assist to lead the Royals to victory over Wilkes on Wednesday. He completed his hat trick in the opening 26 minutes before netting his fourth goal less than two minutes into the second half. Both his nine-point performance and four-goal effort rank tied for the second-most in a single game in program history, establishing new career highs for the senior.
Capretto and the No. 11 Royals return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 28, when they host Drew University in their regular-season finale. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Weiss Field.
