How it Happened

  • The Royals broke through 6:20 into the second quarter to take a 1-0 lead. On a penalty corner, Maggie Keys fired a shot toward the cage that Shana Goldsmith tipped past the goalkeeper for the game's opening goal.
  • Scranton doubled its lead just 5:40 into the third quarter. Keys carried the ball into the circle from the right side and sent a pass across the face of the goal, where Goldsmith was once again in position to redirect it into the cage, making it 2-0.
  • Susquehanna continued to battle and found the back of the cage with just 2:12 remaining, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
  • In a dramatic finish, Scranton committed a foul just outside the circle as time expired, giving the River Hawks one final penalty corner opportunity with zero seconds on the clock. Kiara Koeller fired a shot that Ruby Sorber turned away before Keys cleared the ball out of the circle to secure the Royals' 2-1 victory and the championship!
