Scranton Men's Basketball Falls at Catholic, 87-50

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The University of Scranton men's basketball team fell to Catholic University, 87–50, on Saturday afternoon in the final regular season game of the year. 

The Basics Playoff Outlook
  • Scranton will be the No. 3 seed in the Landmark Conference Playoffs and will host No. 6 seed Susquehanna University on Tuesday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the John Long Center.
  • Catholic (No. 1) and Drew University (No. 2) each secured first-round byes. Wilkes University (No. 4) will host Elizabethtown College (No. 5) in the other opening-round matchup.
How it Happened
  • The Royals stayed within striking distance throughout the early stages of the first half, as Sammy Tornabene found early success in the paint and at the free throw line.
  • Scranton tied the game at 13–13 with just over 10 minutes remaining after a three-pointer by Josias Carbon.
  • Catholic began to pull away late in the opening half behind efficient shooting and solid defense. The Cardinals took an 11-point lead into halftime while shooting over 50 percent from both the field and three-point range.
  • Jon Spatola paced Scranton in the first half with eight points, including two three-pointers.
  • The Cardinals continued their strong shooting from deep to open the second half, knocking down three early triples and extending their lead to 20 at the 13:38 mark.
