Softball Stays Hot in Myrtle Beach, Move to 7-3 with Tuesday Sweep

MYRTLE BEACH, SC -- The University of Scranton softball team continued its strong showing in Myrtle Beach on Tuesday, earning a pair of victories to improve to 7-3 overall and 5-1 on its spring break trip. The Royals defeated Stevenson, 5-2, before posting a 10-5 win over Mount St. Vincent.
 

Game 1: Scranton 5, Stevenson 2

Scranton broke open a tight contest with a big fifth inning and received a strong outing in the circle to secure the win.

How it happened:

  • Scranton opened the scoring in the third inning when Mollie Ferreira reached on a left-field error, allowing Alli Babino to score.

  • The Royals erupted in the fifth inning, scoring four runs on four hits to extend the lead to 5-0.

  • Gianna Muliero delivered an RBI double, Daniela Brescia followed with an RBI single, and Gabriella Gorzkowski added a two-run double in the inning.

  • Emma Douglas pitched well to keep the Mustangs off the board for the first five innings, but Stevenson answered with two runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 5-2.

  • Carley Noble entered in the seventh and closed out the game with a scoreless inning.

Top Performers:

  • Douglas (3-1) earned the win, allowing two runs over six innings while striking out seven.
  • Muliero led the Royals with three hits, while Ferreira added two hits.
  • Gorzkowski paced Scranton with two RBIs in the win.


Game 2: Scranton 10, Mount St. Vincent 5

Scranton jumped out early with a dominant first inning and held off a late push from Mount St. Vincent to complete the sweep.

How it happened:

  • The Royals erupted for seven runs in the first inning, using timely hitting and defensive miscues to build an early lead.

  • Daniela Brescia and Hailey Poskonka each delivered two-run singles in the frame, while Emmie Feltenberger added an RBI hit.

  • Mount St. Vincent chipped away with three runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-5.

  • Scranton responded with two insurance runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

  • Juliana Janezic controlled the game in the circle, pitching into the seventh inning to earn the win.

Top Performers:

  • Feltenberger led the Royals with three hits and two RBIs.
  • Brescia and Poskonka each posted two hits and drove in two runs.
  • Celia Totaro added two hits and an RBI. 
  • Janezic (1-1) earned the win with 6.2 innings of work.


Up next: With the sweep, Scranton improved to 7-3 overall and 5-1 during its Myrtle Beach trip, continuing a strong stretch of play heading into the final games of the trip on Wednesday against TCNJ (9:00 AM) and FDU-Florham (11:00 AM).
