ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The University of Scranton softball team split a doubleheader at Muhlenberg on Thursday, dropping the opener before bouncing back in game two.
The Basics:
- Game 1 Final Score: Muhlenberg 9, Scranton 1 (5 innings)
- Game 2 Final Score: Scranton 4, Muhlenberg 1
- Records: Scranton 10-5, Muhlenberg 15-5
How It Happened – Game 1:
- Muhlenberg controlled the opener, using an 11-hit attack to earn a run-rule win in five innings. The Mules broke things open with three runs in the third and added four more in the fourth to take command.
- Scranton's lone run came in the fourth inning when Celia Totaro tripled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Juliana Janezic. Totaro and Hailey Poskonka accounted for the Royals' two hits.
- Juliana Janezic (L, 2-4) took the loss, allowing seven runs (five earned) over four innings, while Daniela Brescia worked the final 2/3 inning.
How It Happened – Game 2:
- The Royals bounced back in game two behind a strong all-around performance to earn the split.
- Mollie Ferreira led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. She sparked the scoring in the first inning, stealing third and coming home on a throwing error. Scranton added to its lead in the third on a sacrifice fly by Emmie Feltenberger before breaking things open in the fourth. Ferreira delivered the big hit of the game with a two-run single to extend the lead to 4-0.
- Emma Douglas was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete game to improve to 6-1 on the season. She allowed just one run on seven hits while striking out four and walking none. Muhlenberg scored its only run in the seventh, but Douglas and the Royals closed it out to secure the 4-1 victory.
