No. 15 Scranton Women's Lacrosse Earns Convincing Senior Day Win Against Elizabethtown, 19-8

The No. 15 University of Scranton women's lacrosse rolled past Elizabethtown College, 19-8, on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field in Scranton, Pa. 

The Basics 

  • Final Score: No. 15 Scranton – 19, Elizabethtown – 8 
  • Records: No. 15 Scranton (7-4, 3-0 Landmark); Elizabethtown (6-4, 1-2 Landmark) 
How it Happened 
  • Elizabethtown took the lead just 28 seconds into the game on a goal by Ella Scholes, but Scranton answered at the 12:53 mark when Eileen Hewitt scored to tie the game at 1-1. 
  • The Blue Jays moved back in front, 2-1, with 9:47 remaining in the first quarter, but Jillian Lopez responded 21 seconds later with her first goal of the day to even the score. 
  • Hewitt found Grace DiDominica, who gave the Royals their first lead of the day at the 5:40 mark, and 2:10 later, DiDominica finished a pass from Alexandra Back to extend the advantage to 4-2. 
  • Lopez added her second goal of the afternoon with 2:40 left in the period, and Back scored with just over a minute remaining in the first to give Scranton a 6-2 lead. 
  • The Blue Jays pulled within three at the 12:19 mark of the second period when Hailey Meyer converted a free-position attempt. 
  • Scranton responded with three goals in a 42-second stretch to push its lead to 9-3. Hewitt scored her second of the game at 10:03, Colleen Mullin finished a feed from Lopez 12 seconds later, and Hewitt capped the run with her third goal of the day at the 9:21 mark to stretch the lead to six. 
  • Jordyn Hironimus scored a player-up goal for the Blue Jays with 7:45 remaining in the half, but Scranton closed the period with four straight goals. Riley Miller scored at the 5:02 mark, Delaney Wozniak followed 22 seconds later, and Jessica McCabe and Jane Burrows each added goals before halftime as the Royals carried a 13-4 lead into the break. 
  • Ally Flynn finished a feed from Riley Miller to score the first goal of the half 3:47 into the third quarter.
  • Lopez completed her hat trick at the 7:14 mark, and McCabe followed with back-to-back goals to secure a hat trick of her own, extending the lead to 16-4 with 3:28 remaining in the period. 
  • Elizabethtown converted a player-up opportunity with nine seconds left in the third and then opened the fourth quarter with another goal to trim Scranton's advantage to 17-6. 
  • With 11:26 to play, Amelia Price capitalized on a pass from Meghan Theofield to push the lead to 12. Two minutes later, Theofield recorded another assist when Miller finished her feed to make it 18-6. 
  • Elizabethtown netted the final two goals of the afternoon, scoring at the 7:05 mark and again with 16 seconds remaining, as Scranton secured a 19-8 Senior Day victory. 
Top Performers 
  • Hewitt recorded three goals, one assist, five ground balls, five draw controls, and five caused turnovers. 
  • Lopez scored four points on three goals and one assist and added three draw controls and two ground balls. 
  • Mia Dinnocenzio tallied four ground balls and three caused turnovers. 
  • McCabe recorded a career-high three goals. 
  • Lylah Wilhelm grabbed five draw controls. 
Inside the Box Score 
  • Scranton out shot Elizabethtown 40-21. 
  • The Royals won 17 draw controls, while the Blue Jays won 10. 
  • Scranton tallied 16 caused turnovers and Elizabethtown recorded six.
