Scranton Softball Drops Doubleheader at Drew

The University of Scranton softball team dropped both games of a Landmark Conference doubleheader against Drew University on Saturday, falling in a pair of competitive contests on the road.

The Basics:

How It Happened – Game 1:

  • Scranton struck first in the third inning when Emmie Feltenberger singled to left field to bring home Quin Doherty for a 1-0 lead. Drew answered in the bottom half, scoring two runs to take a 2-1 advantage.
  • The Royals responded in the fourth, as Celia Totaro singled to drive in Madison Byrwa, followed by an RBI single from Gianna Muliero to put Scranton back in front, 3-2.
  • Drew regained control in the sixth inning, using a pair of RBI singles to plate two runs and retake the lead at 4-3, which held as the final.
  • Emma Douglas went the distance, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out 10.

How It Happened – Game 2:

  • Drew controlled the nightcap from the start, scoring twice in the second inning on an RBI double and a run following a passed ball. The Rangers added runs in the fourth and fifth innings to extend the lead to 4-0.
  • Scranton was held to just two hits in the game, coming from Mollie Ferreira and Daniela Brescia.
  • Juliana Janezic pitched well despite the result, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out a career-high 11 over six innings.
