How it Happened
  • Drew struck first in the top of the opening inning, scoring the game's first run on an RBI base hit. Jared Cassella then cut down a runner at the plate in the next at-bat to keep the damage to just the one run.
  • The Rangers extended their advantage in the third, scoring three times to make it 4-0. With runners on first and second, Drew executed a hit-and-run as Dylan Gallagher shot a single through the open right side to score Drew's second run of the afternoon. A wild pitch allowed another run to cross, and a two-out RBI single capped the inning.
  • A sacrifice fly in the fourth added another run, stretching the lead to 5-0, and Drew kept the pressure on in the fifth with two RBI singles. The inning ended on a pickoff of Frank Master at first, though a run scored before the out was recorded, pushing the Rangers in front 8-0.
  • Scranton answered in the bottom half of the fifth. James Nitti scored on a wild pitch to get the Royals on the board. Later in the inning, the bases were loaded when Vincent Napolitano was hit by a pitch to force in a run, and Aidan Casey followed with a two-run single to cut the deficit to 8-4.
  • Drew responded with a run in the sixth to go back up 9-4 and added an unearned run in the eighth to make it 10-4.
  • The Royals mounted a rally in the bottom of the eighth, scoring eight runs in the frame, seven of them with two outs, to claim their first lead of the weekend. Consecutive singles by Conor Campbell, Cassella, and Brayden Keller plated a run to make it 10-5. With two outs and the bases loaded later in the frame, Casey delivered a two-run single through the left side to pull Scranton within three at 10-7. Tyler Yoo was then hit by a pitch to reload the bases, and both Nitti and Hunter Petrich worked walks to force in runs and trim the deficit to one.
  • Campbell laid down a perfectly placed bunt single to tie the game at 10-10, and Cassella followed with a two-run single through the right side to give the Royals a 12-10 lead.
  • Logan Mason, who handled the eighth inning, returned to the mound in the ninth and shut the door to secure the 12-10 victory as Scranton salvaged the series finale.
