The University of Scranton men's basketball team enters the 2026-27 season with a deep and versatile group of newcomers, bringing a mix of scoring, defensive toughness, leadership and size to the program. The incoming class features multiple high school 1,000-point scorers, several league and state champions, and a collection of players who have proven themselves as winners at every level.
Ryan Kearney, Forward, 6'7", Freshman
Schnecksville, Pa. / Parkland HS
Kearney brings an inside/outside presence to the roster and projects as a high-level communicator on the floor. A physical defender, he combines a strong basketball IQ with the versatility to impact the game at multiple spots. At Parkland, Kearney helped lead his team to District Championships in 2024, 2025 and 2026, an EPC Championship in 2024 and a state runner-up finish in 2024, earning All-Area Honorable Mention honors along the way.
Robert Lopez, Point Guard, 5'11", Freshman
Glen Rock, N.J. / Glen Rock HS
Lopez is an ultra-quick guard with a chip on his shoulder and a well-earned reputation as a pest on the defensive end. A fiery competitor and proven winner, he pairs a high basketball IQ with the ability to score from all three levels. Lopez was a First Team All-State (Group 2) selection in 2026 and a First Team All-NJIC selection in both 2025 and 2026, helping Glen Rock to a state sectional championship. He is also a National Honor Society member.
Mario Matrone, Forward, 6'2", Freshman
Waverly, Pa. / The Phelps School
Matrone is known as one of the hardest workers in the gym, with a knack for finding the basketball and a reliable shooting stroke from beyond the arc. A three-year team captain at Phelps, he helped the program capture League and District titles each year from 2023 through 2025 along with an Easter Finals championship in 2024, and was named District Championship Air Force MVP as well as the team's most improved point guard. Matrone is a High Honors student and National Honor Society member.
Jack Quinn, Guard, 6'0", Freshman
Newtown Square, Pa. / Cardinal O'Hara High School
Quinn brings strong leadership qualities along with a tough, physical style of play. He has shown the ability to score at all three levels and sees the floor at a high level, developed through the highly competitive Philadelphia Catholic League at Cardinal O'Hara. A two-sport athlete, Quinn was also a Second Team All-Catholic League selection in baseball and is a recognized Scholar Athlete.
Isaac Shrager, Guard, 6'4", Freshman
Harrington Park, N.J. / Northern Valley Old Tappan
A three-level scorer, Shrager is a very good three-point shooter with a natural knack for putting the ball in the hoop. Shifty with his size, he understands offensive angles and how to create scoring opportunities. Shrager was a four-time All-League selection at Northern Valley Old Tappan and enters the program as a 1,000-point scorer in high school.
Luka Vrdoljak, Center, 6'8", Freshman
Albertson, N.Y. / St. Anthony's High School
Vrdoljak is a skilled post player with the ability to step out and knock down the three-point shot, giving him a well-rounded offensive game to go along with a strong defensive presence. He helped St. Anthony's (Long Island) to a state and league championship in 2025 and has earned All-Academic Team honors in both 2025 and 2026.
Matt Lyons, Forward, 6'7", Sophomore
Moosic, Pa. / Holy Cross High School
Lyons is a high-level athlete with an above-the-rim presence and the mobility of a guard in a big man's frame. He has shown the ability to score both inside and outside. A Holy Cross product, Lyons helped his team to PIAA District 2 championships from 2022-24 and PIAA League championships from 2023-25, earning Lackawanna League All-League honors in 2024 and 2025, an All-Defense Team nod in 2024 and Third Team PA All-State recognition in 2025 as a 1,000-point scorer in high school. Lyons joins Scranton as a sophomore transfer from Arcadia University.
