The University of Scranton field hockey team soundly defeated Stockton University, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field in Scranton.

The Basics

• This is the first time since 2022 that Scranton has begun a new season 4-0.

How it Happened

• Stockton applied pressure to Scranton's defensive unit early, earning three penalty corners in the opening six minutes. The Ospreys broke through on their third attempt, as Olivia Catalano ripped a shot from the wing and scored to give Stockton the early lead.
• The Royals evened the score at the 8:05 mark when Shana Goldsmith intercepted a pass, creating a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper. After her first shot was blocked, Goldsmith tucked her second attempt past the goalie and into the cage to make it 1-1.
• Just 4:55 later, Maggie Keys ripped a shot toward the cage that Olivia Dougherty tipped in to give Scranton its first lead of the game at 2-1.
• Scranton created another scoring chance early in the third quarter, drawing a penalty stroke 3:50 into the period. Keys took the attempt and buried her shot into the bottom-right corner to extend the lead to 3-1.
• With just six minutes remaining in the third, Shana Goldsmith carried the ball into the top of the circle and connected with sophomore Olivia Burdo, who flicked a shot off the Ospreys' keeper and into the cage to push the lead to three.
• Stockton continued to fight, earning four penalty corners in the final three minutes of the third quarter, but Scranton's defense stood tall, sending the game to the fourth quarter with the Royals ahead 4-1.
• Riley DeMarco found the back of the cage 3:40 into the fourth frame to bring the Ospreys within two. Stockton continued to battle throughout the fourth, but Scranton's defense did not allow any further damage as the Royals held on for the 4-2 win.

• Keys and Goldsmith each record three points on one goal and one assist.
• Ruby Sorber made a career-high five saves.
