Iggy Awards

The Iggy Awards

Presented for the first time at the end of the 2017-18 athletics year, the Royals’ Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) presents Iggy Awards every May, an award show and program run entirely by Scranton student-athletes. In two short years, the award show has quickly turned into a new tradition for The University of Scranton athletics department.

“The Iggy Awards provides an opportunity for our student-athletes, coaches and the entire athletics community to unite and celebrate the best in Royal Athletics from the past year,” said Colleen Pivorotto, who serves as Scranton’s SAAC advisor, as well as the department’s Assistant Athletic Director, Senior Women’s Administrator, and women’s soccer head coach. “It is unique in the fact that the event is organized and produced for the student-athletes, by student-athletes. The goal of the Iggy's is the for student-athletes to celebrate the success of others as if it were their own.

“It has been a fun and positive experience and a great way to end the year as a department!”

The 2019 Iggy Award for Play of the Year

The 2019 Iggy Awards show was co-hosted by senior Catherine Manning (volleyball), junior Stas Postowski (men’s swimming & diving) and senior Connor “Sunshine” Sharp (men’s track & field), and included an introductory highlight video showcasing moments throughout the year that was developed and edited by junior women’s basketball student-athlete Lily Warhaftig.

Then the entire audience was able to take part interactively by voting live for several superlative awards. Included in these awards were categories such as Best Game Face, Best Celebration, Most Embarrassing Moment and Most Likely To Bust A Move During Pregame Warm-Ups.

After the superlatives were voted on and announced, the main awards for the evening were announced, which totaled 14 in all, and honored both male and female student-athletes in various categories. Every award presented at the Iggy’s was voted on by the student-athletes of the Scranton athletics department, as well.
