Jane Johnson, who enters her 10th season as an Assistant Coach with the Royals' softball program in 2023, has worn many hats during her 30 plus year affiliation with The University of Scranton.

In 2012, she rejoined the Royal softball program to help former Scranton standout Mia Collarini transition from playing to coaching.  The 2012 season was Johnson’s third as an assistant softball coach, having served previously under the late Jerry Alunni, a tenure that included a 17-win season in 2004, the most victories for the program since 1990.  In 2018, Johnson helped lead Scranton to a new school record for wins as the Royals went 33-11, while in 2019, the Royals won 32 games, their first Landmark Conference title and earned a bid into the NCAA Division III tournament for the first time since 1983.

Johnson has also been a highly successful head coach of the university’s women’s tennis program.  From 2001-2004, she led the Royals to a 29-19 record (.604) that included a tie for the Freedom Conference regular-season championship in 2002 and berths in the championship matches of the Middle Atlantic Conference tournament in 2003 and the first-ever Freedom Conference tournament in 2004.  She was twice voted the Freedom Conference Coach of the Year (2002, 2003) by her peers and developed seven all-conference players along the way.

Johnson’s career at the University began well before her appointment as head women’s tennis coach.  Since August 1990, she has served as associate director of the University’s popular intramural and recreation program and continues to serve in this role.

Her extensive background in coaching includes serving as men’s tennis coach at her alma mater, Marywood University, from 1992 through 1994 and as an assistant with the women’s tennis program there from 1990-1992.   She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in health and physical education from Marywood and a master’s degree in elementary education from the University.

Jane and her husband, Rob, reside in Greenfield Township and have two sons:  Tim and Kevin.
