Randy Shemanski was named Associate Director of Athletics in September 2018. He oversees compliance, sports information, athletic training, facilities and game management, as well as assisting Director of Athletics Dave Martin in the day-to-day operations of the athletics department.
Shemanski joined the athletics department in September 2011 as assistant director of sports information and was promoted to athletics communications manager in June 2015. He is a 1999 graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University-Madison (now Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in communications. He completed his Masters in Business Administration from the University in August 2017.
During his time in the athletics department, he has developed the department's social media, including its Instagram account (@royalathletics), which is among the most popular in NCAA Division III athletics. He has also served as master of ceremonies at the annual Senior Student-Athlete Luncheon and is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Following his graduation from Fairleigh Dickinson, Shemanski worked extensively in the electronic and print media, beginning in 1999 as a writer in the sports department for The Scranton Times and The Times-Tribune, where he covered high school, collegiate and professional sports, including the Philadelphia Phillies’ Triple-A affiliate, the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre Red Barons, in 2000 and 2001.
In April 2002, Shemanski was promoted to copy editor of the sports department where he was responsible for design and editorial content. He has also served as assistant sports editor of The Times-Tribune from February 2006 to December 2007, and managing editor of the Community News Group for Times-Shamrock publications and editor of Electric City/Diamond City from January 2008 to August, 2011. In addition, Shemanski served as a volunteer and part-time coach for the University's baseball team since 2005.
Shemanski, who received a Keystone Press Award for best headline writing in 2004, has also done work in local radio, serving as a co-host for In The Zone, a twice-weekly show on the Northeastern Pennsylvania ESPN affiliate from 2003 through 2005, and as a color commentator for University of Scranton men’s and women’s basketball for two seasons.
Randy is a native of nearby Waymart and currently resides in Dunmore.
