Crilly's 'Double-Doubles' Lead Royals To Wins Over Marywood, Wilkes Friday Evening

SCRANTON, Pa.—Behind a pair of ‘double-doubles’ by sophomore outside hitter Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute), The University of Scranton volleyball team opened its own invitational tournament Friday evening at the Long Center with victories over local rivals Marywood University, 3-0, and Wilkes University, 3-0.

Crilly finished with 17 kills and 19 digs in the win over Marywood and had 16 kills and 13 digs in the victory over Wilkes as the Royals remained undefeated on the season and improved to 7-0.

Against Marywood, junior outside hitter Michaela McCrudden (Fort Washington, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph) and junior middle hitter Kelly Nolan (Pearl River, NY/Albertus Magnus) combined for 12 kills and senior libero Marissa Every (East Norriton, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph) finished with 11 digs for the Royals, who hit .257 as a team and had a combined seven service aces.

Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Zalewski (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) led the Pacers with seven kills and junior libero Rachel Tollett (Jenkintown, Pa./St. Basil Academy) had 13 digs.

In the victory over Wilkes, the Royals got a solid performance from senior outside hitter Jenell McFadden (Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy), who had 10 kills and 10 digs, and senior setters Juli Woods (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) and Emily Keim (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) combined for 36 of Scranton’s 39 assists.

Junior Casey Bohan (Harding, Pa./Wyoming Area) led the Lady Colonels, now 2-4, with seven kills and freshman Megan Powers (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) had 14 assists and eight digs.

In other action, Pitt-Bradford defeated Wilkes, 3-2; Marywood defeated Keystone, 3-0; and Pitt-Bradford defeated Keystone, 3-0. 

Action continues tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m.
