The University of Scranton baseball team managed just three hits over the first seven innings and could not overcome the slow start in an 11-5 loss to Ramapo on Wednesday at Connell Park.
The Royals (9-15) scored a run on two hits and an RBI fielder's choice by senior third baseman Mike Trabulsi (Malverne, N.Y./Chaminade) to take a quick 1-0 lead after an inning. But the bats went silent over the next seven innings as Ramapo (19-12-1) scored twice in the third, fifth and sixth innings to take control, then put the game away with a run in the seventh and four in the eight.
Scranton also got an RBI fielder's choice from sophomore shortstop Anthony Pilovsky (Bayonne, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) in the seventh, an RBI ground out by junior first baseman Ross Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights/Blair Academy, N.J.) in the ninth, and two more runs in the ninth on an error.
Senior catcher Eddie Ravert (Havertown, Pa./Malvern Prep) doubled for Scranton, Trabulsi and Danzig had singles and an RBI each, and freshman Kevin Raszka (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) came off the bench to deliver a pinch-hit single and score a run.
Scranton is back in action on Thursday when it travels to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. to take on Wilkes at 4 p.m.
