Alumni Spotlight: Anthony Marotta '24 Drives Player Development with Data at USA Baseball

For Anthony Marotta '24, playing baseball at The University of Scranton sparked a deeper passion for the game and helped him realize he wanted to pursue it as a career. Marotta is currently the Systems and Analytics Intern for USA Baseball and plays a critical role in supporting player evaluations and long-term development strategies.

With a sharp eye for detail and a passion for baseball's statistical side, Marotta's primary focus is to dissect athlete performance data in support of player evaluations. Whether it's measuring spin rates, exit velocity, or launch angle, Anthony dives deep into the numbers to help USA Baseball's scouting team understand the variations of each player's game.

A key part of his role involves creating comprehensive performance reports for participants in the Prospect Development Pipeline (PDP) testing program. These documents refine complex datasets into clear, actionable insights—viewed by coaches, scouts, and athletes looking to chart their progress and potential. Beyond PDP, Marotta assembles TrackMan player reports for event participants, translating raw tracking data into polished summaries that tell each athlete's story on the radar.

Technology management is equally important to his responsibilities. Anthony oversees operations of cutting-edge systems like TrackMan and Rapsodo at USA Baseball events. From initial setup and calibration to real-time monitoring and post-event validation, he ensures the technology captures clean, consistent, and accurate data.

In a sport where marginal gains can define careers, Marotta's work is helping shape the next generation of USA Baseball talent.
