CARLISLE, Pa. - Host Dickinson scored a goal in each half, as they were able to get past the University of Scranton men's soccer team on Wednesday night, taking a 2-0 decision from the visiting Royals in non-conference action.
With the defeat, Scranton fell to 6-5-2 on the year, while Dickinson improved to 8-3-2 with the victory.
Dickinson was able to grab an early lead in the contest, going up 1-0 17 minutes into the match with a score. That lead held into intermission, as Scranton was unable to get three shots on goal past Dickinson goalie Jeremy Palcan.
In the second half, the Royals cranked up the pressure on offense, firing six shots on net.
But, each was denied by Palcan, as he kept Scranton off the scoreboard in the process. Meanwhile, Dickinson got their second goal on a penalty kick in the 56th minute, then rode their defense the rest of the way in a two-score win.
Overall, Scranton ended the match outshooting Dickinson 15-10, with senior Michael Romano (Freehold, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) taking four shots on the night (three of which were on goal).
The University of Scranton men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, as they leap back into Landmark Conference play with a match against Catholic at Fitzpatrick Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
