SCRANTON, Pa. - A goal by visiting Juniata with a little over two minutes left in overtime ended it, as the Eagles got past the University of Scranton field hockey team in extra time, 2-1, on Friday night at chilly Fitzpatrick Field in Landmark Conference action.

With the loss, the Royals dropped their first game on the 2015 campaign to go to 9-1 overall and 1-1 in the Landmark. Juniata improved to 5-4, 2-0 in the Conference with the win.

The match was a tale of two halves for both teams, as the opening frame was dominated by Scranton.

Holding possession on their end most of the period, the Royals broke a scoreless tie in the 27th minute, as senior Jessica Pankey (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) scored her fourth goal of the season off an assist by sophomore Ryan Jones (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) to give Scranton the 1-0 lead going into intermission.

The second half, however, was controlled by Juniata, as the Eagles quickly tied the match back up in the 39th minute.

In the second stanza, Juniata outshot Scranton 7-1, but sophomore goalie Christina Black (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph's Academy) kept the Royals alive after making four saves alone in the half.

Still knotted up at 70 minutes, the match headed to overtime, where Juniata once again controlled play, outshooting Scranton 3-0. Finally in the 82nd minute, the Eagles scored, giving the visitors the one score win.

Overall, Juniata outshot Scranton 12-5 in the match and held an 11-9 edge on corners. In goal, Black ended the evening with six total saves.

The Royals will look to rebound on Tuesday, as they host Albright in a out-of-conference match at Fitzpatrick Field. Things get underway at 7 p.m.
