MADISON, N.J. - A goal early in the second half by senior Michael Romano (Freehold, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) was the difference, as the University of Scranton men's soccer team recorded a big 2-1 victory on the road at Drew on Wednesday night in Landmark Conference action.
With the victory, Scranton remained unbeaten in Landmark action, going to 6-3-1 overall and 2-0-1 in Conference play. Drew fell to 8-2-2, 1-1-1 in the Landmark with the loss.
Scranton opened the scoring for the contest early in the first half, as junior Tim DiBisceglie (Mine Hill, N.J./Gill St. Benard's School) scored his fourth goal in as many matches, unassisted, in the 13th minute, giving the Royals an early 1-0 edge.
Drew answered the goal in the 24th minute, as the match went into intermission knotted up at 1-1.
After being outshot 6-3 in the first period, Scranton dominated play in the second, with Romano's eventual game-winner coming in the 56th minute. The goal was the senior's third of the year, second of which was a game-winner.
From there, the Scranton defense controlled the match, holding Drew to just five shots in the second period. Only one of those shots was on goal, which was saved by junior Eric Hintz (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor), preserving the one score win for the Royals.
Overall, Scranton ended the night outshooting Drew 15-11 (12-5 in the second half), while the Royals also had a 3-2 edge on corner kicks. Hintz ended the night making two saves in net for Scranton, as well.
The University of Scranton men's soccer team return to the pitch on Saturday, traveling to Goucher for another Landmark Conference tilt. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
