Senior forward Krista Osborne (Blue Bell, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) scored midway through the first half and the defense made it stand up as The University of Scranton field hockey team continued its unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 victory over Arcadia on Saturday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Field.

Osborne's goal in the 22nd minute was the only goal that sophomore goalkeeper Christina Black (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) and her defensive mates needed while posting their third shutout of the season. Black finished with two saves and the defensive unit, led by senior Jessica Pankey (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) and junior Amanda Maresca (Matawan, N.J./St. John Vianney), allowed just five shots.

Scranton (6-0) held a 6-2 edge in shots in the first half, and it was Osborne's tip on a ball sent into the front of the cage by junior midfielder Elizabeth Yorey (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) that provided the lead. It was Osborne's fifth goal of the season and 30th of her career, which ties her for seventh in school history. Her 72 career points are also seventh in program history.

Yorey's assist was her second of the season and fourth of her career.

The Scranton defense, which also got strong efforts from sophompores Jessica Kaplowitz (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) and Hailey Marini (Slingerlands, N.Y./Guilderland Central), stood tall in the final 10 minutes as Albright (4-2) put on nearly constant pressure down the stretch. Black made a key save on a shot from the right point with less than nine minutes left, and the Royals dodged a bullet a minute later when the Knights hit the right post.

Scranton finished the match with an 8-5 edge in shots, but Arcadia held a 6-2 advantage in penalty corners.

The Royals will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 23, when they host Wilkes at 7 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
