SCRANTON, Pa. - For the third consecutive match, senior Krista Osborne (Blue Bell, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy) scored the game-winning goal, as the University of Scranton field hockey team got past Wilkes on Wednesday night at Fitzpatrick Field in overtime, 1-0.
With the win, the Royals moved to 7-0 on the year. Wilkes fell to 4-4 with the defeat.
For the first 70 minutes of action, momentum swung back and forth between the teams, as Scranton was able to develop more shots on goal in regulation, only to have each of their five attempts saved by Wilkes goalie Dallas Kendra.
Entering overtime still scoreless, the Royals finally ended the match 7:56 into overtime.
After a penalty corner, freshman Elizabeth Tolley (Brookside, N.J./West Morris Mendham) was able to send a pass across to Osborne who was in the front of the net to the left of the Kendra. Osborne was able to finish off her shot, lifting the Royals to another one-score victory, their third straight by one-goal.
Overall, Scranton outshot Wilkes 9-5 in the contest.
The Royal defense was once again stout in the victory, as Scranton pitched their fourth shutout of the season. Scranton has also not allowed a goal in over 182 minutes of action (two and a half matches), as goalie Christina Black (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) was able to notch another shutout win.
The University of Scranton field hockey team returns to action on Saturday, as they travel to Susquehanna to open Landmark Conference play. Things get underway at 1 p.m.
