LA PLUME, Pa.  – Senior's Alyssa Whitman (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley)  and Krista Osborne (Blue Bell, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) scored two goals, apiece, as the University of Scranton field hockey team leaped out to a 5-0 halftime lead and never looked back in a 6-0 victory at Keystone on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Royals moved to 2-0 on the season, while Keystone dropped to 0-2 with the defeat.

In the first half, the Royals came out fast and furious, scoring their first goal of the afternoon in the 13th minute as Osborne got Scranton on the board with a score off an assist from senior Meghan Kearney (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) to make it a 1-0 game. In the 22nd minute, senior Jessica Pankey (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) got in the scoring column with an unassisted goal, making it a 2-0 game.

A little over a minute later, senior Lara Haab (Gladwyne, Pa./Country Day School Sacred Heart) scored, unassisted, to make it a 3-0 lead for the Royals. In the 29th minute, Whitman scored her first goal off a deflected save, giving Scranton a 4-0 lead.

The scoring in the first half for the Royals came to a close in the 32nd minute, as Whitman added her second goal (and third of the young 2015 season), giving Scranton an insurmountable 5-0 lead going into the half. Junior Elizabeth Yorey (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) was credited with an assist on the play, as well.

In the second half, Scranton added their final goal in the 39th minute, as Osborne added her second goal off a Pankey assist. From there, it was academic for the Royals, as they coasted down the stretch for the six-goal victory on the road.

Overall, Scranton held a sizable lead on shots in the win, outshooting Keystone 39-5 in the victory. In goal, sophomore Christina Black (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) earned the shutout win, making three total saves on the afternoon.

The University of Scranton field hockey team returns to action on Wednesday, as they continue their road trip at William Paterson. Things get underway at 7 p.m.
