Box Score

SCRANTON, Pa. - A goal by senior Henry Bonilla (Fairless Hills, Pa./The Pennington School) in the first half proved to be the difference, as the University of Scranton men's soccer team recorded their second straight shutout victory on Wednesday afternoon, blanking Dickinson, 1-0, in nonconference action at Fitzpatrick Field.

With the win, Scranton improved to 9-3 on the year, while Dickinson fell to 5-7-1 with the defeat.

In the first half, both teams had opportunities on net in the first 20 minutes, but failed to convert. In the 24th minute, however, the Royals offense executed perfectly to deliver the only score of the contest.

On the goal, junior Connor Casey (Hatfield, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) played a cross to senior Michael Bergen (Newtown, Pa./The Pennington School) on the left side of the net. Bergen then served up a great pass to a streaking Bonilla in the middle of the box, who buried home what turned out to the game's only goal.

For Bonilla, it was his sixth goal of the 2016 season, with Bergen and Casey each picking up their first assists of the season on the play. It was also Bonilla's fifth game-winner of the year.

From there, the Scranton defense took over, keeping Dickinson off the board for 90 minutes of play.

In net, senior's Eric Hintz (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) and Colin Homola (Massapequa, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) each played a half to preserve the shutout victory.

Hintz and Homola both made two saves, apiece, on the night, as the defensive unit led by senior's Matthew Busch (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) and Pat Codispoti (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Chaminade) earned their seventh shutout victory of the season.

Overall, Scranton outshot Dickinson, 12-9, in the contest, and held a slim 6-5 edge on corner kicks.

The University of Scranton men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, hosting Juniata in Landmark Conference play at Fitzpatrick Field. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
