SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The University of Scranton softball team dropped a pair of games at Susquehanna in Landmark Conference play on Saturday afternoon, losing game one, 3-2, then game two, 8-0, in six innings.

With the pair of defeats, Scranton is now 14-14 on the year overall, 4-6 in the Landmark Conference.

In game one, the Royals got off to a fast start, opening a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on the Crusaders. Junior Shannon Stricker (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell Egan) kept her hot bat alive with an RBI single in the frame, while sophomore Shanna Schaeffer (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) forced a bases loaded walk two outs, giving the Royals the early two-run lead.

But, throughout the course of the game, Susquehanna would come back, plating their first run in the bottom of the first to cut the Scranton lead in half to 2-1. The Royals still held that lead into the bottom of the fifth, where Susquehanna scored what turned out to be the final two runs of the contest to take a one run lead.

From there, the Royals went down quietly in the sixth and stranded the tying run on third base in the seventh, dropping a heartbreaker in game one by a run.

Overall in the first game, Stricker led the way offensively going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while sophomore Kaitlyn Brogan (Oreland, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

In the second game, Scranton could not muster much offense against Susquehanna starting pitcher Alexa Gonzalez, as she allowed just two hits in the eight run, shutout victory for the Crusaders.

The University of Scranton softball team returns to action on Monday, traveling to Penn State Hazleton for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
