JESSUP, Pa. --Senior Kaitlin O'Sullivan (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) recorded the 100th hit of her career in game two, headlining individual performances on the day for the University of Scranton softball team, as the Royals coasted past visiting Cazenovia on Tuesday at the Jessup Youth Sports Complex, taking game one of a doubleheader, 5-1, before rolling to a 14-2 win in game two (in five innings).

With the victories, Scranton pushed their record to 10-9 overall on the year, while Cazenovia dropped to 4-12 with the losses.

In the first game of the afternoon, Scranton rallied from an early 1-0 deficit, putting Cazenovia away with a three-run bottom of the fourth inning that put the Royals up for good at 4-1.

In that inning, freshman Anna Price (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) gave Scranton the lead after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, then fellow freshman Casey DeSarno (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

Another freshman, Natalie Dominguez (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) scored the last run of the frame for Scranton on a Cazenovia error with two outs, giving the Royals a 4-1 edge.

The run support was all junior pitcher Morgan Rentzheimer (Laurys Station, Pa./Parkland) needed, as she collected her seventh win of the year (7-4 overall) after tossing six innings of shutout softball, allowing just three hits, while striking out 10.

Overall in game one, senior Shannon Stricker (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell-Egan) was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while fellow senior Christine Kiefer (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) went 1-for-3 with an RBI double.

The second game saw Scranton get up early and never look back, as the Royals opened a 5-0 lead in the first inning, then added nine more runs in the second to go up 14-0 after two.

In the second, O'Sullivan roped a two-RBI single up the middle, giving her her 100th career hit in the process. O'Sullivan joins teammate and fellow senior Jacqueline DeSarro (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) in joining the 100 career-hit club during the 2017 season, as DeSarro hit the mark last month.

In the circle in game two, freshman Caitlin Long (Ho Ho Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) was great in three innings of work, not allowing a run or hit in that time to earn her second win of the 2017 season (she is now 2-2 overall for the year).

Overall at the dish in game two, sophomore Molly Hampsey (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) was a perfect 3-for-3 on the night with an RBI and two runs scored, while Stricker was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. DeSarro, meanwhile, was 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored, as the Royals smacked 11 hits in the win.

The University of Scranton softball team returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Hunter in another non-conference doubleheader at the Jessup Youth Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
