MADISON, N.J. – The University of Scranton men's soccer team (9-4-2, 4-1 Landmark) erased an early 1-0 deficit and clinched a playoff berth for the first time since 2016 with a 3-1 win over the Drew Rangers (4-9-2, 0-4-1 Landmark) on Wednesday night at Ranger Stadium in Madison.

The Royals sit in second place in the Landmark Conference standings with two regular season games remaining. Scranton is tied with Elizabethtown in the standings, but holds the tiebreaker over the Blue Jays by virtue of a 2-1 victory on Oct. 19.

Tyler Kwaak opened the scoring for Drew in the seventh minute with a shot from the top of the box off a feed from Aidan Cserhat to give the hosts a 1-0 lead for the time being. The Royals tied the game in the 36th minute as Jarred Corbett (Wenonah, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) delivered a free kick into the box which bounced off the right post and into the net and took the lead in the final minute of the half as senior Christian Savino (Downingtown, Pa./Malvern Prep) buried a free kick of his own to give Scranton a 2-1 lead. It marked the first goal of the season for both players. The two sides managed five shots apiece in the first half.

Senior Jon Roberts (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Immaculata-Somerville) extended the lead to 3-1 in the 58th minute as he played a ball that was sent over the top by freshman Brendan King (Hempfield, Pa./Manheim) and beat Drew goalie Jake Marlow with a shot. The goal was Roberts' sixth of the season which is tied for the team lead with freshman Christian Arcos (Bayonne, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep). The Rangers had a handful of chances down the stretch, but sophomore goalie Jake Hodlofski (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) made two saves as part of a strong defensive effort for Scranton.

Drew held a slight 14-12 advantage in shots and Roberts led the Royals with three shots on the night. Hodlofski tallied two saves in net for Scranton, while Marlow and Jason Adamo had two saves apiece for the Rangers.

The Royals return home to host Susquehanna on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Weiss Field at 1 p.m. The team's 10-man senior class will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
