Eastern Connecticut State Deals Baseball Second Straight Defeat

Port Charlotte, Fla. – Eastern Connecticut State built a 5-0 lead in the first three innings of Wednesday's non-conference baseball contest with The University of Scranton and never trailed on its way to an 11-4 victory.

The Warriors (1-3) notched their first win of the season while the Royals will take a 2-5 mark into Friday's Landmark Conference opening doubleheader against Susquehanna.

Senior Ian McIntosh (Newtown, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) led Scranton with a pair of doubles and two runs scored while junior Brandon Peters (Peckville, Pa./Valley View) and sophomore Kevin Johnson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central) also doubled for the Royals in the loss.

Peters, along with fellows junior Travis Adams (Clark, N.J./St. Joseph's Metuchen), and Kevin Haag (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining/Bridgton Academy (Maine)) each drove in a run in the game.

Eastern Connecticut built a 5-0 lead over the first three innings of Wednesday's ballgame before Scranton go on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. 

The Warriors answered with a three-run home fourth before each team added a run apiece in the fifth inning to make it a 9-3 contest.

Eastern Connecticut pushed its advantage to seven runs in the home sixth before the two squads capped the scoring with a run apiece in the eighth inning.

The Warriors held a 10-8 advantage in hits for the game while both teams committed one error aside. 

Eastern Connecticut pitchers combined for nine strikeouts and three walks while the Royals staff issued 12 walks and had one strikeout.

Scranton opens Landmark Conference play on Friday afternoon when it takes on Susquehanna in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. in Port Charlotte.
