BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's track & field team had a strong performance on Saturday at the Coach P Invitational hosted by Moravian. The Royals totaled 11 top-20 results including four top-10 finishes at the Greyhounds' Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field.
Sophomore Rachel Kerr (Dickson City, Pa./Scranton Prep) placed third in the 5000 meter run, crossing the finish line in 18:37.02 while freshman Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) finished fifth after completing the race in 18:47.84.
Sophomore Emily de Onis (Blue Town, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) brought home a fifth place result in the 3000 meter steeplechase, clocking in at 12:15.19.
Junior Caroline Banas (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer) tied for eighth place in the high jump after clearing the bar at 1.54 meters while freshman Meghan McGonigle (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) took 19th place in the event with a leap of 1.49 meters.
Scranton placed a trio of runners in the top-15 of the 800 meter run led by freshman Nikki George (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls), who clocked a time of 2:27.40 to finish in 12th place. She was trailed closely by 13th place finisher, junior Nora Boussatta (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield), and 14th place finisher, freshman Megan Gorman (Staten Island, N.Y../St. Joseph Hill Academy).
Sophomore Abigail Corrigan (Carbondale, Pa./Holy Cross) earned an 18th place finish in the 1500 meter run by posting a time of 5:02.94.
The Royals finished 14th in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:25.21 while their mark of 53.38 seconds in the 4x100 meter relay was good for 17th place.
Scranton will next compete at the Monarch Open hosted by King's on Saturday, April 27 starting at 9:30 a.m. in Wilkes-Barre.
