Box Score SCRANTON, PA (October 8, 2022) -- Junior Mary Haggerty (Garden City, N.Y. / Garden City) scored a pair of goals while sophomore Emily Bannon (Middletown, N.Y. / Minisink Valley) added a goal and an assist to lead The University of Scranton women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Elizabethtown College on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field.
The Royals advance to 9-2-1 on the season and 3-0-0 in Landmark Conference play.
Scranton wasted no time getting on the scoresheet as junior Niamh Healy (Orangeburg, N.Y. / Tappan Zee) got past the Etown backline and threaded a pass to Bannon who tucked her shot into the bottom right corner to give the Royals an early 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.
Haggerty made it 2-0 in favor of Scranton in the 19th minute when she capitalized off a mistake from the Blue Jays' backline and ripped a shot into the back of the net.
Junior Emily Tantala (Langhorne, Pa. / Neshaminy) nearly made it 3-0 in the 29th minute when she drilled the crossbar on a fantastic long-range effort. The Royals remained ahead 2-0 at halftime.
Haggerty added to the tally in the 84th minute when she buried a one-touch finish into the far corner of the net off a feed from Bannon to increase Scranton's lead to 3-0. The goal marked Haggerty's sixth of the season which leads the Royals.
Scranton outshot Etown 24-3 in the contest and held a 4-0 advantage on corners.
The women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday when they host Drew University in a Landmark Conference matchup at Weiss Field at 7:00 PM.
