Box Score

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. –The University of Scranton baseball team (7-1-1) scored 10 runs for the third time in four games and captured a sixth straight win with a 10-4 victory over the Albertus Magnus Falcons (0-4) on Tuesday morning at The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach.

Scranton has scored double-digit runs on four occasions this season and has scored a total of 76 runs in nine games thus far.

After Albertus Magnus plated a run in the top of the first, the Royals quickly answered with two in the home half as graduate student Connor Harding (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) knocked in a run with an RBI triple and later scored on sophomore Corey Zientek's (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton Area) RBI single. In the third inning, Harding walked, stole second and third and scored on an error, while sophomore Aidan Plick (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) added an RBI single later in the frame for a 4-1 lead.

Sophomore right-hander Thomas Plunkett (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) made his first start of the season for the Royals and allowed a run on two hits to go along with a career-high six strikeouts in four innings of work. Freshman righty Kevin Keil (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Atlantic County Institute of Technology) followed Plunkett and earned his first career win as he did not allow an earned run and struck out one in 3.0 IP before giving way to sophomore righty George Sengos (Washington Twp., N.J./Westwood Regional) who worked the final two innings in relief of Keil.

The Falcons added a run in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 4-2 before Scranton once again responded with a run in the bottom of the inning as Zientek led off with a double, advanced to third on a flyout and scored on graduate student Kevin Johnson's (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central) RBI double.

Angel Lugo Vazquez gave up five runs (three earned) on six hits while walking three over 4 1/3 IP and was deal the loss for Albertus Magnus.

The Royals were able to break the game open with a run in the seventh and four more in the eighth as Plick delivered the big blow with a two-run single and Zientek added an RBI single of his own to make it a 10-2 game for the time being.

Three different players registered multi-hit games for the Royals in Harding (2-4, 3B, RBI, 4 SB, 3 R), Plick (2-4, 3 RBI, SB) and Zientek (3-5, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 SB, 2 R), while Johnson walked twice and scored three runs.

Scranton stole a staggering 11 bases in the game and has swiped 42 bags in nine games this season.

The Royals will close out the Spring Break trip with a matchup against Mount Aloysius tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
