Redding Breaks Points Record as Field Hockey Topples Lycoming, 10-0

SCRANTON, Pa. – Senior Katie Redding (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) broke the program's all-time points record and The University of Scranton field hockey team (14-3, 8-1 Landmark) closed out the regular season with a dominant 10-0 victory over the Lycoming College Warriors (4-12, 0-8 Landmark) on Wednesday night at Weiss Field in Scranton.

Redding scored a career-high four goals on the night and now has 130 career points, which surpasses the previous record of 122 that was held by Denise Atkinson (1982-83, 1985).

With the victory, the Royals have secured the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 seed Wilkes in a Landmark Conference quarterfinal on Saturday night at Weiss Field with action slated to get underway at 7 p.m.

Redding opened the scoring just 0:56 into the game following a feed from junior Reagan Dolan (Broomall, Pa./Bonner & Prendergast) and the Royals struck for three goals in the first six minutes of the game. Sophomore Annie Shaw (Exton, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) found the back of the cage in the fourth minute and Redding tallied her second of the game in the sixth minute for the early 3-0 lead. Later in the quarter, a shot by senior Cori Davis (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) ricocheted off the post in the 12th minute and sophomore Julia Downing (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) then made it 4-0 seconds later with an assist by senior Bridget Abraldes (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East). In the second quarter, Shaw registered her second goal of the game in the 19th minute after Abraldes tipped the initial shot and the latter scored in the 21st minute as the Royals took a 6-0 lead into the locker room.

Just 0:53 into the third period, Redding completed the hat trick to extend the lead to 7-0 at the time. Redding tallied her fourth goal of the game in the 38th minute and Scranton used fourth quarter goals from Abraldes and sophomore Angelina Veve (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) to complete the 10-0 victory.

The four goals for Redding are tied for the second-most in a single game in program history and the most by a Scranton player since Elizabeth Tolley scored four in a win over Misericordia on Sept. 12, 2017.

Abraldes matched the single-game program record with her four assists on the night, marking the third time in program history that the feat has been accomplished.

Scranton held a 26-5 shot advantage in the contest led by five from Redding and four from Abraldes. Junior goalies Gianna Travia (Havertown, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Julie Rogel (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) combined on the shutout for the Royals as Travia played the first 45 minutes in the cage and Rogel tallied two saves in the fourth quarter.

Lycoming's Isabella Bobe recorded seven saves in the setback.
