Towson, MD -- The University of Scranton men's soccer team tied Goucher 0-0 on Saturday afternoon in Landmark Conference action in Towson, MD.
With the tie, the Royals move to 6-2-3 on the year and 0-2-2 in conference play.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Charlie Smith (Devon, Pa. / Conestoga) made a save in the opening five minutes of play to keep the Gophers from taking an early lead. Senior
Dylan Estevez (Garnerville, N.Y. / Don Bosco Prep) had the first shot on goal of the game for the Royals as he had his effort saved by Goucher's goalkeeper Ale Sternini in the 16th minute.
Scranton out-shot Goucher 8-2 in the first half but neither side was able to break the deadlock as the game remained scoreless headed into halftime.
Freshman
Matt Capretto (Hockessin, Del. / Charter School of Wilmington) had an early chance to start the second half but Sternini made another save for Goucher. The Royals continued to dominate offensively in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net as the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
Scranton held a 21-8 shot advantage in the contest and had 9 cornerkicks while Goucher had just 3. Smith finished the game with four saves and recorded his fifth clean sheet of the season.
The men's soccer team returns to action on Tuesday for another Landmark Conference matchup at Wilkes at 7:00 PM.
