Two members of The University of Scranton baseball team were named to the D3baseball.com Summer Honor Roll that was released by the organization on Monday morning.
Junior RHP Dominic Chieffalo (Norristown, Pa./Malvern Prep) and senior infielder Matthew Querey (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) were recognized for their standout performances this summer.
Chieffalo pitched for both the Brockton Rox of the Futures League and the Martha's Vineyard Sharks of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. In nine appearances (three starts) with Brockton, he posted a 4-2 record with a 3.57 ERA and fanned 21 batters over 22 2/3 IP. Chieffalo then spent the final part of the summer with the Sharks and pitched in three games (two starts), allowing just three earned runs in 10 2/3 IP.
For Querey, the Wilmington, Del., native hit .338 in 25 games for the Upper Darby Blue Sox of the Delaware County Baseball League. He also added 12 RBI, eight doubles, a triple, 15 stolen bases and 25 runs scored as Upper Darby advanced to game five of the League Championship series.
