Justin Curran (Media, Pa. / The Shipley School) scored the eventual game-winner in the 72nd minute to lead The University of Scranton men's soccer team to a 1-0 win at Muhlenberg in the season opener on Friday night.
The Royals had their first chance of the game in the 36th minute as freshman
Luke Roberto (Howell, N.J. / Howell) missed wide right. Sophomore goalkeeper
Charlie Smith (Devon, Pa. / Conestoga) made a last minute save to close out the first half and keep the game scoreless headed into the break.

Gavin Scavino (Succasunna, N.J. / Gill St. Bernard's) had an effort on goal to open up the second half, but had his shot saved by Muhlenberg's goalkeeper Ben Mulford. Freshman
Matt Capretto (Hockessin, Del. / Charter School of Wilmington) tried his luck on net in the 63rd minute but was also stopped by Mulford.
After getting subbed on in the 69th minute, Curran made an immediate impact as he scored less than two minutes later to give the Royals a 1-0 lead with less than 20 minutes remaining in regulation. Curran crashed the net on a cross from freshman
Ronnie Prislupski (Moosic, Pa. / Holy Cross) and buried the chance for the first goal of his sophomore campaign and the third of his career at Scranton.
Smith made another clutch save in the 86th minute to keep the Mules off the board in secure a 1-0 win for the Royals. It was a physical contest that featured 23 fouls and four cards. Smith finished the game with four saves and earned his first career shutout as a Royal.
The men's soccer team is back in action on Sunday for the home opener against MIT at 1:00 PM at Weiss Field.
