Scranton, PA -- The University of Scranton Men's Soccer Head Coach
Matt Pivirotto earned his 200th career win on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field in a 1-0 victory over William Paterson.
Pivirotto becomes the second men's soccer coach to reach the milestone joining
Steve Klingman (324).
Sophomore
Logan Campbell (Chalfont, Pa. / Central Bucks South) scored the lone goal of the game on a corner in the 23rd minute of the game. Junior
Sean Quin (Stony Point, N.Y. / Albertus Magnus) delivered a dangerous ball that found its way to the far post where Campbell buried the chance for his second goal of the season.
Freshman
Drew Paxson (Elkins Park, Pa. / Abington) nearly got the Royals on the board in the opening five minutes but his effort from just outside the 18-yard box hit the crossbar. Sophomore
Tyler Colton (Syracuse, N.Y. / Central Square) had back-to-back chances in the 15th minute but was unable to convert.
The Royals had several chances in the second half but were unable to add to the tally. The defense held strong, allowing just two shots in the second half and Scranton secured a 1-0 victory.
Scranton dominated the stats, outshooting WPU 18-4 and had 10 corners while the Pioneers had just 1. Sophomore goalkeeper
Charlie Smith (Devon, Pa. / Conestoga) made two saves on the day and earned his third shutout of the season.
The men's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday for a local road game at Marywood at 7:00 PM.
