Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Redding Surpasses 100 Career Points as Field Hockey Blanks King's, 6-0

SCRANTON, Pa. – Senior forward Katie Redding (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) surpassed 100 career points with a pair of goals on the night and The University of Scranton field hockey team (2-1) toppled the King's College Monarchs (0-3) by a score of 6-0 on Wednesday night at Weiss Field in Scranton.

Redding becomes just the sixth player in program history to reach the 100 career point mark and the first since Alyssa Fania in 2014.

The Havertown, Pa., native opened the scoring just 1:42 into the game as she blasted one from the top of the circle following a penalty corner by junior Lauren Franco (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson). Junior Reagan Dolan (Broomall, Pa./Bonner & Prendergast) struck for a goal in the fifth minute that quickly made it a 2-0 game. Later in the first quarter, Redding took a feed from classmate Bridget Abraldes (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) in the circle and found the back of the cage for a 3-0 lead 11 minutes into the game. Throughout the second period, Scranton continued to mount pressure offensively, but the score remained 3-0 at halftime after junior goalie Gianna Travia (Havertown, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) turned away a shot by Kings' Melanie Tlatenchi in the final minute of the half.

Scranton made it 4-0 in the 33rd minute behind a goal from senior Elle Collins (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) and then Abraldes tipped home Redding's initial shot just over four minutes later that extended the lead to 5-0. Sophomore Julia Downing (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) joined the scoresheet in the 43rd minute for the Royals with her first goal of the season.

With the two goals, Redding registered her 11th career multi-goal game.

Travia made one save in 45 minutes of action for Scranton and fellow junior Julie Rogel (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) played the final 15 minutes in net as the duo combined on the shutout.

Grace Venis tallied eight saves in the setback for King's.

The Royals are back in action on Saturday afternoon at Arcadia with action slated to get underway at 1 p.m.
