Women's Soccer Drops Hard-Fought Battle to No. 16 NYU

SCRANTON, PA -- The University of Scranton women's soccer team fell 1-0 to No. 16 New York University in a closely contested match at Weiss Field on Tuesday evening.

How it Happened
  • Scranton held the momentum early in the first half, creating several chances including the first shot of the game from graduate student Niamh Healy less than two minutes in.
  • NYU got on the board in the 13th minute as Hunter Hoelscher found the back of the net off a corner kick to put the Violets up 1-0. 
  • Graduate Student Emily Tantala ripped a shot from long-range in the 83rd minute, but hit the crossbar.
  • The Royals held a 7-5 advantage in shots in the second half, but weren't able to find an equalizer as NYU went on to win 1-0.
