Women's Soccer Earns 3-1 Comeback Win At Catholic

WASHINGTON, DC -- The University of Scranton women's soccer team fought back from a 1-0 deficit early in the second half to post a 3-1 victory over Catholic University in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Carlini Field.

  • Records: Scranton (8-1-2, 2-0-0 LC), Catholic (4-2-2, 0-1-1 LC)
  • This marks the 10th straight win over Catholic for the Royals.
How it Happened
  • Scranton held a 5-4 advantage in shots in the opening half, but neither side was able to find the back of the net. 
  • Catholic's Isabel Doherty scored the opening goal of the game in the 63rd minute as she ripped a shot from long-range over the head of senior goalkeeper Nicole Olson to make it 1-0 in favor of the Cardinals.
  • The Royals found an equalizer in the 66th minute as sophomore Jenna Borelli capitalized on a lapse in the Catholic back-line and beat out the keeper in a one-on-one to tie the game up at 1-1. 
  • Freshman Molly Martys scored the first goal of her career and put the Royals ahead 2-1 in the 72nd minute as she had her initial shot saved but received a pass from sophomore Faith Schechter off the rebound and knocked a first-time finish through traffic into the back of the net. 
  • In the 84th minute, graduate student Claire Mulholland played a ball into the box that was mishandled by the Cardinal defense and into the back of the net for an own goal to put Scranton up 3-1.

  • Borelli scored her third goal of the season.
  • Martys notched the first goal and first game-winning goal of her career.
  • Olson made three saves in the win.
