No. 24 Field Hockey Blanks Wilkes, 3-0

WILKES BARRE, PA -- The University of Scranton field hockey team defeated Wilkes University 3-0 in Landmark Conference play on Tuesday night. 

The Basics
  • Final Score: Scranton 3, Wilkes 0

How it Happened
  • The Royals out shot Wilkes 13-0 in the opening half, but weren't able to find the back of the cage as the game remained scoreless at halftime. 
  • Scranton scored the first goal of the game with 4:33 remaining in the third period as senior Reagan Dolan ripped a shot off a corner that got deflected in front of the cage and found the stick of graduate student Bridget Abraldes who knocked it into the goal to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.
  • Dolan scored the second goal of the game for Scranton with 10:42 remaining in the fourth period as she ripped a shot from the top of the circle off a feed from Abraldes. 
  • Less than a minute later Scranton added a third goal as junior Annie Shaw sent the ball into the circle and found Abraldes who avoided the Colonel defense and dished it to graduate student Katie Redding right in front of the cage for an easy finish. 
Top Performers
  • Abraldes recorded a game-high four points on one goal and two assists.
  • Redding scored her 13th goal of the season which leads the Landmark Conference. 
  • Dolan picked up her sixth goal of the year. 
  • Scranton's defense didn't allow a shot from Wilkes in the contest. 
Inside the Box Score
  • The Royals held a 21-0 edge in shots and a 6-2 advantage in corners.

The field hockey team will travel to Juniata College on Saturday with action slated to begin at 1:00 PM.
