HUNTINGDON, PA -- The University of Scranton field hockey team notched their fourth straight win and second consecutive shutout after defeating Juniata College by a final score of 4-0 at Knox Stadium.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Scranton 4, Juniata 0
  • Records: Scranton (14-2, 5-1 LC), Juniata (4-9, 3-3 LC)

How it Happened

  • The Royals got on the board first against Juniata, scoring in the middle of the second quarter. After graduate student Bridget Abraldes took the ball into the circle and passed it to junior Annie Shaw, Shaw quickly redirected the pass back to Abraldes who then flicked it past the diving Eagles' goalie to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.
  • Scranton added to its lead just a few minutes later as freshman Shana Goldsmith took a crosser from sophomore Ava De Natale and pushed it into the cage to extend the advantage to 2-0.
  • Less than one minute into the third quarter, the Royals earned two corners with the chance to extend their 2-0 lead. The Royals came up empty on their first attempt but converted on the second try when sophomore Anna Capelli collected a shot from senior Reagan Dolan and ripped a shot of her own toward the goal that ricocheted into the air and landed in the cage for the goal.
  • The Royals added their fourth goal of the game in the middle of the fourth quarter. Sophomore Maggie Keys ripped a shot into the circle and Abraldes redirected it to senior Gabby Lorenzo, who buried the shot for her first goal of the year.

Top Performers

  • Abraldes led the team with three points on one goal and one assist. She also broke the single-season assists record with her 12th helper of the year.
  • Capelli's goal was the first of her career.
  • The Scranton defense did not allow a single shot in the contest.
