Field Hockey Blanks Drew, 7-0

SCRANTON, PA -- The University of Scranton field hockey team posted a dominant 7-0 victory over Drew University in Landmark Conference action on Tuesday night at Weiss Field.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Scranton 7, Drew 0
  • Records: Scranton (15-2, 6-1 LC), Drew (8-8, 2-5 LC)
How it Happened
  • The Royals scored the opening goal of the game in the second period as graduate student Katie Redding found sophomore Ava De Natale on a through pass and De Natale beat out the Drew goalie to make it 1-0. 
  • Less than a minute later, Scranton was awarded a penalty stroke which senior Reagan Dolan converted to give the Royals a 2-0 lead. 
  • Dolan scored another penalty stroke goal to open up the second half and give Scranton a 3-0 advantage.
  • Freshman Lydia Bechtel recorded the fourth goal of the game as she ripped a shot from the left side past Drew's goalie and into the far right corner of the net. 
  • Fellow freshman Shana Goldsmith got on the board to close out the third quarter as she received a feed from graduate student Bridget Abraldes at the far post and buried a shot to put the Royals up 5-0. 
  •  Junior Annie Shaw and sophomore Maddie Slavin each added to the tally for Scranton in the fourth period and Abraldes assisted on both goals.
Top Performers
  • Abraldes recorded three assists in the win and currently ranks top five in the country in assists with 15. 
  • Dolan scored a game-high two goals.
Inside the Box Score
  • Scranton held a 32-5 advantage in shots and a 13-4 edge in corner kicks.

The field hockey team will host Susquehanna University on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field with action set to get underway at 1:00 PM.
