No. 9 Women's Soccer Defeats Wilkes, 3-0

WILKES BARRE, PA -- The University of Scranton women's soccer team earned a 3-0 victory against Wilkes University in Landmark Conference action on Wednesday evening.

How it Happened
  • Scranton scored the opening goal of the game in the fifth minute as junior Morgan Griffin found the ball on a corner that got deflected in the box and ripped a shot into the back of the net to give the Royals an early 1-0 lead. 
  • The Royals scored on another corner in the closing minutes of the first half as junior Katie Brennan recovered the ball that was knocked around in the box and slotted it into the net to put Scranton up 2-0. 
  • In the 57th minute, graduate student Emily Tantala threaded a pass through the Wilkes defense to classmate Claire Mulholland who drove into the box from the left side and found senior Emily Bannon at the back post for an easy finish.

  • Griffin and Brennan each recorded their second goals of the season.
  • Bannon scored her first goal of the year.
  • Mulholland picked up her third assist of the season.
  • The Scranton defense earned its eighth shutout win of the year.
