No. 9 Women's Soccer Defeats Juniata on Senior Day, 4-0

SCRANTON, PA -- The University of Scranton women's soccer team posted a 4-0 victory over Juniata College in Landmark Conference play on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field. 

The Basics
  • Final Score: No. 9 Scranton 4, Juniata 0
  • Records: No. 9 Scranton (12-1-2, 6-0-0 LC), Juniata (8-5-1, 2-4-0 LC)
How it Happened
  • Scranton struck in the ninth minute as senior Emily Bannon crossed a ball from the right wing that found the right foot of graduate student Niamh Healy and into the bottom left corner of the net to put the Royals up 1-0.
  • The Royals added a second goal to the tally in the 27th minute as graduate student Mary Haggerty played a corner kick into the box and Healy found the ball at the far post and knocked it off the post and in for her second goal of the game.
  • Graduate student Emily Tantala delivered a perfect cross into the box that found the head of junior Katie Brennan and into the top right corner of the net to give Scranton a 3-0 advantage in the 72nd minute. 
  • Scranton scored its fourth and final goal of the contest in the 81st minute as junior Linda Daly drove into the box and past a pair of Juniata defenders before finding freshman Molly Martys who ripped a shot into the top right corner of the goal.
Top Performers
  • Healy's brace helped her reach 10 goals on the season which leads the conference. 
  • Brennan and Martys each recorded their third goal of the season. 
  • The Scranton defense only allowed two shots in the game.
