Strong First Half Leads No. 9 Women's Soccer Past Drew, 2-0

SCRANTON, PA -- The University of Scranton women's soccer team scored a pair of goals in the opening 15 minutes and earned a 2-0 victory over Landmark Conference opponent Drew University on Wednesday night at Weiss Field.

How it Happened
  • Drew had a chance in the sixth minute as Alexa Krause was in on goal, but senior goalkeeper Nicole Olson made an outstanding save to keep the Rangers off the board.
  • Scranton took the lead in the 14th minute as graduate student Claire Mulholland threaded a pass through the Drew back line to senior Samantha Goffice who dribbled towards net and beat out the goalie with the outside of her right foot to the far post.
  • Just over a minute later, Goffice played a ball into the box to graduate student Niamh Healy who took a touch and ripped a half volley with her left foot into the far right corner of the net making it 2-0.
Top Performers
  • Goffice recorded her second goal and first assist of the year.
  • Healy scored her 11th goal of the season which leads the Landmark. 
  • Mulholland picked up her fourth assist of the year which leads the Royals.
  • The Scranton defense posted its fourth consecutive shutout win and 10th of the season.

  • The Royals held a 24-3 advantage in shots and a 4-1 edge in corners.
