Men's Soccer Battles Alvernia to 2-2 Draw

SCRANTON, PA -- The University of Scranton men's soccer team battled Alvernia University to a 2-2 tie at Weiss Field on Wednesday night. 

The Basics
  • Final Score: Scranton 2, Alvernia 2
  • Records: Scranton (4-2-3), Alvernia (5-3-3)
How it Happened
  • Alvernia got on the score sheet in the opening three minutes of the game as Evan Bauer found the back of the net for the Golden Wolves.
  • The Royals responded well and found an equalizer in the 42nd minute as junior Justin Curran scored off a corner kick to make it 1-1. 
  • Scranton took the lead in the 71st minute as junior Dean Finan played a perfectly weighted cross into the box that found senior Ciaran Corr who ripped a one-touch shot into the top right corner giving the Royals a 2-1 advantage. 
  • The Golden Wolves were given a free kick just outside the 18-yard box in the final minute and converted on the opportunity with a goal from Ryan Cogill to level the game at 2-2. 
Top Performers
  • Corr scored his fourth goal of the season which marks a team-high. 
  • Curran picked up his second goal of the year.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Ned Van Loan had another strong outing, making five saves for Scranton.
