Men's Soccer Advances to Landmark Semifinals After Penalty Kick Shootout Against Lycoming

SCRANTON, PA -- The University of Scranton men's soccer team advanced to the Landmark Conference Semifinals after a 4-2 penalty kick shootout victory against Lycoming College in Tuesday night's first round game. 

The Basics

How it Happened
  • Scranton out shot Lycoming 7-1 in the opening half, but the game remained scoreless headed into the break.
  • The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute as Christian Woobay scored on a close-range shot off an assist from Keller Chamovitz. 
  • Scranton responded in the 71st minute as Jake Acosta found the ball off a deflection from the Lycoming back line and ripped a shot with his left foot from the right side of the 18 yard box into the bottom right corner of the net. 
  • The Royals held a 3-0 advantage in shots during the two 10 minute overtime periods, but the game remained tied at 1-1 and went to a penalty kick shootout. 
  • Juniors Logan Campbell and Tyler Colton and senior Ciaran Corr converted the first three penalty kicks for Scranton while Lycoming missed its first attempt off the crossbar and third attempt high. 
  • Sophomore Alex Kozdron converted the fourth penalty kick to advance the Royals to the Landmark semifinal.

  • Acosta scored the first goal of his career at Scranton.
  • Junior goalie Charlie Smith made two saves in the win.
