No. 9 Women's Soccer Topples Drew 5-0 in Landmark Semifinals; Will Host Landmark Championship on Saturday

SCRANTON, PA -- The top seeded University of Scranton women's soccer team defeated fourth seed Drew University 5-0 in Thursday night's Landmark Conference Semifinal and have advanced to the championship game against No. 2 seed Lycoming College on Saturday at Weiss Field at 1:00 PM.

How it Happened
  • The Royals got on the board in the fifth minute as graduate student Claire Mulholland found the ball at the mouth of the goal off flicked passed from classmate Niamh Healy and knocked it into the right side of the net. 
  • Healy added a goal of her own in the 11th minute as she elevated over the Drew defense and headed in a corner kick from classmate Mary Haggerty to put Scranton up 2-0. 
  • Junior Morgan Griffin found the back of the net in the 49th minute as she received a cross from senior Samantha Goffice and flicked the ball into the right corner of the goal with the outside of her right foot. 
  • In the 62nd minute, graduate student Emily Tantala drove towards the box through the Drew back line and found Goffice to her left who took one touch past a defender and beat out the Drew goalie to the near post to give the Royals a 4-0 advantage. 
  • Junior Linda Daly capped off the scoring in the 68th minute as she got on the end of a cross from sophomore Libby Masterson and found the back of the net. 
Top Performers
  • Healy and Goffice each registered three points on one goal and one assist.
  • Mulholland scored her fifth goal of the season. 
  • Griffin and Daly each recorded their third goals of the season.
  • Senior goalkeeper Nicole Olson and the Scranton back line posted their 13th shutout win of the year.

  • Scranton held a 27-5 edge in shots and a 15-0 advantage in corner kicks.
